Every Tuesday and Thursdays at 10.30 am our box is filled with extra energy. Why?
Because it’s time for the Alpha Seniors to train.
When coach Marta started teaching this class in early 2018 we couldn’t imagine the contagious joy that this special group would bring to our community.
From 59 to 76 years old, most of our athletes reached us through a family member that was doing CF in our affiliate and all of them started with some type of medical or physical condition. Some of them have fully recovered and all have improved.
The benefits of doing physical activity were immediate. Better posture, better mobility and balance, stronger muscles…all of them gain physical independence and that is our main goal. And parallel to all the physician benefits, then gain a new family. The social part of the class is as much if not more important than the physical one to prevent depression and cognitive decline.
All of that was interrupted in mid March when the Covid pandemic reached Europe. Our affiliate had to close gates and most of our athletes were training at home with online coaching. The seniors were no exception. Every day they received a video with the workout of the day. Some of them were even more active than in normal time but other felt the need of the social part and the physicall presence of a coach and of their colleagues and friends. As the summer arrived and the Government rules were less strict they started to walk and train outdoors.
Now the Autumn is here and the 1st of October was the day they returned to the original training ground. It was great to see the happiness on their faces when they reunited. Some were a bit out of shape but eager to get back at work.
So, once more, our Tuesdays and Thursdays are the week days that have the most happiness spread throughout our community.
